Oil starvation is a major cause of engine damage due to high speed cornering, braking, and acceleration this due to the forces experienced under high performance driving.

Effectively a very large amount oil sloshes away from the oil pick up point in the oil pan which causes the oil pick up to run dry or scoop air.
